My Take on Animal Spirits

It seems that at some point, every paranormal investigator encounters an animal spirit. For me it’s usually cats. I don’t know why but it just seems to work out that way. The first time I encountered this phenomena was when I was a teenage boy, I believe I was 14.
At that time in my life, I had three babysitter jobs; taking care of neighborhood kids at various times during the week. This one night I had just put the family’s two sons to bed and plopped myself down on the couch to watch some TV.
As I recall now, it was about an hour later that I felt what I thought was a cat, walking on top of the couch cushions behind my head and it actually rubbed up against my head. I remember reaching up to pat the cat and when I didn’t feel it I turned to see where it was and saw nothing. At the time I thought nothing of the incident and just thought that the cat had jumped off the couch and gone into another room.
After a while, I had gone into the kitchen to get a soda (pop for you mid-westerners) and remember looking out for the darn cat but didn’t see it. The family had a dachshund and (as I believed then) a yet to be seen, but felt, cat. I remember feeling a bit concerned about the cat and got worried that maybe it may have gotten outside, they had a front screen door that wouldn’t latch properly and wouldn’t you know, there it was – about an inch still open. I pulled the door shut and went back to the TV.
Later that evening, the kids’ parents came back and I promptly told them about how I thought the cat may have gotten out and had yet to return. I apologized profusely and they both responded that there was nothing to worry about; they didn’t have a cat!
It was about a month later that my services were needed again by this family. I showed up and the kids’ dad ran out to get the car warmed up on this chilly fall evening. I was saying ‘Hi’ to the kids’ when their mom pulled me off to the side and started asking me about the cat incident. Did I remember what happened, where was I when it happened; questions like that.
Anyhow, it turned out that she too had had felt the phantom cat rubbing against her ankles while she was doing the dishes in the kitchen and just like me, when she looked to fully expect to see a cat, there was none to be seen!
Fast forward to today…
Since that experience, which I can say was my first recognizable incident with an animal spirit; I have had many more encounters with animal spirits. I truly don’t know why they are attracted to me and the only thing I can point to is my love and compassion for animals.
My mom can tell you stories about me bringing strays home, cats and dogs, with me being in tears because of the neglect they had suffered or the injuries they were suffering at the time and begging her for us to keep them and help them. We would nurse the animals to health or keep them until they had regained their strength and then my mom would take them to a no kill shelter.
On several occasions, they would pass and I would be devastated. I’m sure it drove my parents crazy, but they put up with it. This has carried over into my adult life and my ex-wife could tell you a few stories about a cat we named ‘Lucky’ who, as it turned out, wasn’t so lucky.
My point here is this: Animal spirits or entities, just like human spirits or entities, feel and seek out compassionate and/or like energies; if they’re truly intelligent (not place recordings or location/local energy manifestations).
The logical thought process here is this; we pre-suppose that human spirits or entities maintain their emotional properties in spirit form. Wouldn’t it then be a normal extension of that thought to apply it to animal spirits or entities? I think so and to back this up I and many other investigators have had similar experiences.
My question to you, the reader, is do you believe this progression of logical thought to be correct? Have any of you reading this article ever experienced anything like this? If so could you relay your experience here to us?
One final note that I find to be worthy of mention is that at the age of 12, when I was making my Confirmation with the church, you are required to pick a Patron Saint. Oddly enough, I picked St. Francis as my Patron Saint; The Patron Saint of Animals.

When we did Fort Adams last year Dave, I believe it was Maggie that had an EVP/EAP of a cat meowing on the recording. I remember her playing it one of the nights that I was there. I believe she said it was something she had picked up on a recent investigation they had done because it was still on her digital recorder. It actually was quite loud needing no headphones to hear it.

I agree that animal spirits and entities can linger here and maintain their emotional properties. I have had several personal experiences with animal spirits/entities.
One such encounter came when my cat Indy passed away. I adopted Indy and he was extremely attached to me. Unfortunately he had medical problems and despite all the vets efforts, he passed away at home. I was devastated. That night and every night after he passed for the next few weeks I felt Indy get up on my bed and curl up by my legs like he use to when he was alive.
My most recent encounter came just last week, when I went to my friends house for dinner. He had just moved into the apartment and I remember him stating that he wish he could get a cat, but the landlord did not allow animals. This was why I was shocked when out of the corner of my eye I saw what looked like a cat rub against the stove and continue on into the living room. Checking the living room I did not find a cat. I chalked it up to a play of lighting or my imagination, until I saw the cat again going from the bathroom into the kitchen. I confirmed with my friend that he did not have a cat…I told him “on the contrary, I think you do!”
As a side note, I too am an animal lover and have rescued many cats in my time…I find that they are drawn to me because they are able to sense my loving nature/energy.
